加拿大办公室同事说“let the cat out of the bag”,我真以为有人把猫装进袋子了

“Don’t let the cat out of the bag.”
“Wait… there’s a cat in the bag?”
“No cat. It means don’t tell him about the surprise.”
我这才明白,let the cat out of the bag 根本不是“把猫放走”,而是“无意中把秘密泄露出去”。
“Why is everyone hiding in the lunchroom?”
“I can’t tell you. It’s about your birthday cake.”
“Well… you just let the cat out of the bag.”
以后再听到“Don’t let the cat out of the bag”,我估计永远忘不了这个办公室社死现场。
