加拿大办公室开事故复盘,同事说“pass the buck”,我脑子里已经开始传鹿了……

那天加拿大公司出了个小事故。
一份本来只发给内部员工的报表,不知道怎么回事,被发给了错误的邮件列表。
第二天早上,经理把几个人叫进会议室复盘。
开发说:
“I thought Operations was checking it.”
“我以为运营那边会检查。”
运营马上接:
“We were told IT would handle it.”
“我们听说是IT负责。”
IT同事一脸无辜:
“Nobody told me.”
“没人跟我说啊。”
空气突然变得特别微妙。
经理看了一圈,说:
“Guys, we can’t just keep passing the buck.”
“大家不能一直这样……”
我听到这里,脑子突然卡住了。
pass the buck?
pass,传递。
buck,雄鹿。
传递一只雄鹿?
我甚至脑补出一只加拿大大鹿站在会议桌旁边,大家像击鼓传花一样:
开发传给运营,
运营传给IT,
IT再把鹿推回开发……
经理看我表情不对,问:
“You okay?”
“你没事吧?”
我很认真地问:
“Sorry… what buck are we passing?”
“不好意思……我们在传哪只鹿?”
会议室安静了两秒。
旁边同事直接笑出声:
“Not an actual deer!”
“不是让你们真的传一只鹿!”
然后他解释:
“Pass the buck means to shift the responsibility to someone else.”
“就是把责任推给别人。”
我这才反应过来。
所以经理那句话其实是:
“We can’t keep passing the buck.”
“我们不能一直互相甩锅。”
更尴尬的是,经理最后还笑着补了一句:
“Although a deer in this meeting might actually help.”
“不过这会议里真来一只鹿,说不定还挺有帮助。”
从那以后,我再听到:
“Don’t pass the buck.”
“Stop passing the buck.”
“He always passes the buck.”
脑子里还是会先跑出来一只鹿。
但至少现在知道了——
北美办公室里如果有人让你“pass the buck”,千万别转头找鹿。
