加拿大买二手车,销售说“a good deal”,我以为他又给我打折了……

刚来加拿大那年,我去二手车行看车。
试完一辆Toyota,我觉得价格还能接受,朋友在旁边说:
“That’s actually a pretty good deal.”
“这其实挺划算的。”
我心想,这个简单。
good deal,不就是“好交易”嘛。
于是我很商务地朝销售点点头:
“Yes, good deal.”
“对,好交易。”
销售憋着笑,估计以为我已经决定买了。
结果他接着介绍:
“This car will save you a good deal of money on gas.”
“这辆车能帮你省不少油钱。”
我瞬间精神了。
“Wait, another deal?”
“等等,还有一个优惠?”
销售愣了两秒:
“Another deal?”
我指着车,一脸认真:
“You said ‘a good deal of money’. How much discount?”
“你刚才说‘一笔好交易的钱’,还能便宜多少?”
旁边朋友直接笑弯了腰。
他赶紧解释:
“No, no. A good deal of money means a lot of money.”
“不是不是,a good deal of money 是‘很多钱’。”
我当场安静。
原来good deal单独说时,确实经常表示“很划算”:
“You got a good deal.”
“你买得挺值。”
但a good deal of后面接东西时,往往是“大量、许多”的意思。
最尴尬的是,销售最后还问我:
“So… do we have a deal?”
“所以……这车成交吗?”
那一刻我脑子里全是deal,已经不知道哪个deal是哪笔deal了。
