美剧学英语:down in the dumps - 加拿大办公室同事说自己“down in the dumps”,我差点问他垃圾分类是哪一桶……

“Hey Mike, you okay?”

“Yeah… I’m just a little down in the dumps today.”
今天有点down in the dumps。”

down=下面,dumps=垃圾堆。

“You mean… at the dump? What happened?”

Mike
“What?”

“Did you lose something there?”

Mike
“No, no. ‘Down in the dumps’ means I’m feeling sad.”
“不是不是,down in the dumps就是说我心情很低落。”

“So… no garbage?”

Mike
“No garbage. Just a terrible game.”

Mike
“Now you look down in the dumps.”

down in the dumps

“I’ve been a bit down in the dumps lately.”
